These small quilted projects are all made with the same general technique. I begin with a photo or a sketch that gets transformed into a pattern. A few of the more recent projects began with a commercial pattern from Emily Taylor at Collage Quilter or Maxine Tarsey at Fabric Collage Patterns on Facebook.
When I use a photo, I browse J.Nuibe.Photograpy and choose from the many great shots in my grandson’s gallery.
I use Lite Steam a Seam 2 to fuse the pieces together on parchment paper and then to the foundation fabric, or I fuse the pieces directly to the foundation fabric, then add quilting, painting, and other embellishments.
This is my own design. The background is Northcutt Stonehenge Gradations in blue. The coral is cut in chnks from a seascape fabric and filled in with some multicolor swirl fabric. The sea grass is batik, and most of the critters were fussy-cut from various fabrics in my stash. The sunbeams are tulle with gold threading. I'm keeping this one!
